I was born in the west Prussian town of Scheipnitz. My two siblings and I grow up in a special family home.

My father was a farmer. We had 25 acres of land and the things we grew – like potatoes, vegetables, eggs – we sold in our farm shop. Already at the age of 13 I was helping my parents. As well as the shop our house was also set up as a pub. It was named after my father WILHELM JASCH and was the centre of my life until I got married.

Our pub was the centre point of the village. It was not only a place for buying, but also for chatting, festivities, dancing. Here everyone would meet and be together. How often we had bands playing in our dance hall! For the younger people, there was even a billiard table where they could wile away the time. I particularly liked serving in the shop and pub, while my mother prepared the food in the kitchen and my father worked in the fields.

Although everything revolved around the pub and I often had to work hard, I still like to recall these times!
