I have started doing needle work when I was young and after the war I started sewing my own dresses.
Although it was not my profession, I was interested in sewing- we had to do it to save money! You could only buy something if you had money – and this way I could ease the pressure on the household budget.
My whole pride and joy were my twins that I put into my self-made clothing. I always was proud when I got a positive feedback for my work from neighbours, friends and family. I stopped with the sewing when my daughter went to high school and asked me: “mum, can I have a bought coat for winter please”. I have continued doing the alterations though right until I couldn’t do it anymore for health reasons.
