The record has been an important part of my life: the music!

I have always enjoyed listening to music and also played the guitar as a young girl. And I always helped my parents in their business, which was concerned with groceries.

As I got to know my husband and married, the two became joined. He was technically very gifted and I was interested in music. So we developed a new existence with a music shop: “RADIO HÜKKELER” was our first store at 14 Merscheiderstraße, in Solingen.

We sold radios and my husband also repaired them. Records and later cassettes were also part of our range of goods. I still remember the old firms Elektrola and Telefunken…

It was an interesting area; one always had to keep up to date. As we were self-employed we had very little time to go to concerts – and that although I love classical music – particularly Mozart.

So the record was a symbol of music for me, more so than the music it played. It is a memory of the time of independence, and above all the memory of my deceased husband.
